B’not Israel Sheltering Home is established.

(ca.) Founded by the women’s auxiliary of the Beth Israel Synagogue on Baldwin Place, it is located at 15 Cooper Street. Its purpose is to provide temporary lodging for recently-arrived Jewish immigrants. The organization subsequently moves to 6 – 10 North Russell Street.
